services are becoming more prevalent. These capabilities have the potential to significantly enhance user experience and streamline research workflows. The integration of augmented reality technologies for physical navigation represents another promising direction. Research demonstrating the effectiveness of AR-enhanced book location navigation suggests opportunities for broader implementation. Furthermore, as libraries increasingly serve as community hubs, mobile applications are likely to incorporate more social and collaborative features. Event notifications and community engagement functionalities have already been identified as attractive needs that can significantly enhance user satisfaction. Conclusion The development of mobile applications for library access and user interaction represents a significant evolution in library service delivery. This review has identified several key themes in contemporary research and practice: the importance of user-centred design methodologies, the value of structured needs analysis in prioritizing features, the effectiveness of iterative usability testing, and the potential of mobile applications to address challenges in resource discovery and equitable access. Successful library mobile applications must balance essential functional requirements with attractive features that enhance user engagement. While catalogue searching and account management constitute baseline expectations, features such as enhanced navigation, event notifications, and research integration can significantly differentiate applications and improve user satisfaction. As mobile technologies continue to evolve, libraries must remain responsive to changing user expectations while maintaining their core mission of providing equitable access to information. Mobile applications, when developed thoughtfully and evaluated rigorously, represent a powerful tool for advancing this mission in the digital age.
