Abstract
Literal translation is a technique of translation. It helps to maintain the structure of a text and make its understanding simpler, easier, more precise and exact. However, many criticize and condemn this technique as mere transcoding and therefore incapable of satisfying the exigences of translation. This study examines and explores the merits of this technique in translating technical texts such as Comment Retrouver La Forme, How To Regain Good Health by Jean Pliya. Our objective is simply to illustrate the effectiveness of literal translation in rendering technical texts into another language. The study defines translation, the technique of literal translation, the theoretical perspective of using this technique and then discusses the technical texts. Finally, we present our source text face to face with our target text in english. briefly, the translation of a technical text requires precision and exactness to enhance the understanding of the text. Therefore, literal translation should not be entirely condemned in every area and situation of translation. On the contrary, we must master the use of every technique in every area where it is apt and appropriate.
